Overview
The final project for this course is the creation of a presentation covering a process improvement proposal, as well as an internship reflection. The process improvement proposal will require you to compare processes at your internship sites with the EHR Go environment, identify an area of opportunity within the management of the electronic health record (EHR), and propose a process improvement. You will also reflect on your internship experience and how it can be applied to your future professional experiences.
The Final Project includes one milestone, which will be submitted to scaffold learning and ensure quality final submissions. The milestone will be submitted in Module Five. The final project will be submitted in Module Seven.
In this assignment, you will demonstrate your mastery of the following course outcomes:
HIM-445-01: Articulate the impact of knowledge and experience gained through an internship on achieving professional goals
HIM-445-02: Apply theoretical knowledge and program competencies for developing recommended solutions to practical, real- world, health information management problems
HIM-445-03: Communicate ideas, suggestions, or relevant information in a professional manner appropriate for the healthcare industry
HIM-445-04: Critique distinctions between theoretical concepts and real-world practices in professional settings
In the final project, you will create a presentation outlining the process improvement proposal, as well as a reflection of your internship experience. Present the information in the process improvement and internship reflection sections in a professional manner appropriate for the healthcare industry.
Create a PowerPoint-style presentation, using the provided template (if desired), that addresses the following critical elements:
I. Process Improvement
- Evaluate the key EHR management methods used within your internship environment. Explain what works well and what needsimprovement. [HIM-445-01]
- Describe a specific challenge caused by inefficiencies in EHR processes. Explain how you employed classroom experience and internshipknowledge to solve the problem. [HIM-445-02]
- Describe an area of opportunity related to EHR management methods that you have identified at your internship site. What implicationsexist if it remains unresolved? What are the barriers? [HIM-445-03]
- Using your professional and classroom experience as a guide, recommend an appropriate improvement for the identified EHRmanagement issue. How will your proposal improve EHR management? [HIM-445-03]

Milestone One: Process Improvement
In Module Five, you will consider areas related to the EHR system at your internship site that could be improved. This milestone will be graded with the Milestone One Rubric.
Final Project Submission: Process Improvement and Internship Reflection Presentation
In Module Seven, you will submit your final project. It should be a complete, polished artifact containing all of the critical elements of the final product. It should reflect the incorporation of feedback gained throughout the course. This submission will be graded with the Final Project Rubric.
Final Project Rubric Guidelines for Submission: Your final project presentation should be 10–15 slides in length.
