use an MLA Style guide to assist you in formatting Works Cited page entries and in-text citations;
distinguish between credible and not credible sources and accurate and inaccurate information using cross referencing and other strategies;
apply your critical reading strategies by learning from the interpretations of others;
compose initial responses that address the prompt in full; and
respond substantively to your peers’ posts.

understand the importance of community in successful learning environments;
understand the structure of a research paper; and
understand how evaluate and revise your writing and the writing of others to satisfy the criteria for a research paper.
Task
Read the student sample research paper by following this linkLinks to an external site.. The link will take you to a Google Doc you can edit. Use the highlight and comment tools in Google Docs to identify the context, focus, effective attributive tags, supporting examples, and correctly formatted in-text citations in the paper, if present, and offer an assessment of each based off of your understanding of research writing, MLA style, and the rubric for Research Paper 1. Avoid highlighting entire paragraphs.
You are not experts and are not expected to be. This is intended to develop your understanding of research writing and what is expected of you in a low-stakes collaboration.
After you have marked the document, summarize your assessment of the paper, assign it a grade based on that assessment and the rubric, and ask any questions you have about the paper and research writing in general in an initial post in the discussion forum.
After you have posted your initial assessment, please respond to at least three of your peers’ posts by Sunday. Respond substantively.

Post your initial response by Wednesday.
Read all of your classmates’ posts (that were posted by Wednesday).
Reply to at least three of these posts by Sunday. Make reference to something that was mentioned in that individual’s initial post as part of your response.
